Senator Chris Balkema (R- Channahon), issued the following statement in response to U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s visit to Springfield, praising her leadership on border security while expressing concerns over Governor Pritzker’s sanctuary state policies and their impact on the safety of Illinois families.
“Secretary Noem’s visit to Springfield sends a strong message that leaders are standing up to the dangerous policies harming public safety in Illinois. When I served on the Grundy County Board, I fought to make our community a non-sanctuary county because I believe in the safety of our citizens.
“Governor Pritzker’s reckless sanctuary state agenda has turned Illinois into a magnet for criminal illegal immigrants, stripped law enforcement authority, and made it easier for violent offenders to walk free. This isn’t leadership.
“Illinois families deserve better—safe communities where the law is respected. I’m glad Secretary Noem is highlighting the need to refocus on safety and accountability in our state.”
