Streator Strong: Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Last week, our region was reminded of the strength and resilience that make Illinois communities so special. Following the tornado in Streator, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the incredible response from local residents, first responders, volunteers, and community organizations who stepped up to help those affected.
And just a week later, severe storms once again impacted parts of our region, bringing renewed challenges to families already working to recover. In both instances, the damage was significant, but so was the outpouring of support. From clearing debris and delivering supplies to checking on neighbors and assisting families in need, the response demonstrated what can be accomplished when a community comes together during difficult times.
I want to thank everyone who played a role in the recovery efforts. The teamwork, compassion, and determination displayed throughout the response are a testament to the character of the people who call this area home. While recovery continues, I know Streator will emerge stronger because of the dedication of so many individuals willing to lend a helping hand.

A Great Day at Our Senior Fair in Washington
Our Senior Fair in Washington was a success, and I want to thank everyone who attended, as well as the many organizations and vendors who helped make the event possible.
It was great to connect with so many residents, answer questions, and provide valuable resources for seniors and their families. Events like these are an important opportunity to ensure people have access to information about state services, healthcare resources, local programs, and community support networks.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and spent part of their day with us. I always enjoy hearing directly from constituents, and I look forward to continuing these conversations at future events throughout the district.

District Highlight – Mr. Jim Tallman Band Director at Washington Community High School
This week, State Senator Chris Balkema is proud to recognize Jim Tallman, longtime Band Director at Washington Community High School, for his decades of dedication to students and the Washington community.
Since 1993, Mr. Tallman has helped shape the lives of thousands of students through music, leadership, and service. Under his direction, Washington’s band program has earned statewide recognition, provided students with performance opportunities across the country, and fostered a culture of excellence both on and off the stage.
One of his lasting contributions is Project 3000, a community service initiative that encourages band students to give back through volunteer work. His commitment to developing well-rounded students and building strong community connections has left a lasting impact on generations of families.
Senator Balkema thanks Jim Tallman for his outstanding service and dedication to the students, families, and community of Washington.
