Dear friend,
Rising energy costs are putting real strain on families across Illinois, and I hear your frustrations loud and clear. Like many of you, I’m concerned about how these increases are making it harder to keep up with the basics such as food, gas, housing, and other daily essentials.
Frankly, we shouldn’t be in this position. Bad policy decisions forced reliable, affordable energy sources offline without putting practical alternatives in place, leaving our energy grid vulnerable, and you’re the ones paying the price.
That’s why I’m co-sponsoring legislation to help stabilize our grid and protect families from even higher bills:
- Senate Bill 1234: Creates a task force to look at how state energy policies affect both affordability and reliability.
- Senate Bill 1235: Removes harmful restrictions on dependable fossil fuel plants and allows new peaker plants to help meet demand.
- Senate Bill 1236: Cuts red tape holding up critical energy projects like the Lincoln Land Energy Center.
My goal is simple: an energy system that’s dependable, sustainable, and affordable for Illinois families. I’m going to keep fighting for common-sense solutions that put people first.
Please know that I am here to represent you. If you ever need anything or have any questions, please contact my office here or give us a call.
Yours truly,
Senator Chris Balkema
