Friend,
As this year comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what a meaningful first year it has been. When I was sworn into office this past January, I entered public service after a 31-year career at Caterpillar. That experience taught me the importance of listening, approaching challenges with fairness, and supporting people through real-world decisions — skills that have proven invaluable in my role as a senator and are deeply needed across Illinois and our nation today.
It is truly an honor and a blessing to represent our district and to work on behalf of families, taxpayers, and local communities. I am especially grateful for the conversations we’ve shared at events, meetings, and through calls to the office. Hearing directly from you continues to guide and inform the important work we do every day.
As we celebrate this Christmas season, I encourage you to reflect on its true meaning and the hope it brings to our lives. I look forward to continuing to represent you in 2026 and to advancing the solutions needed to move our state in the right direction. Together, as a team, we can get it done.
Our offices will be closed for the holidays and will reopen on January 5. In the meantime, please feel free to reply to this email with any questions or concerns. I read every message and ensure each is addressed.
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Chris Balkema
Illinois State Senator, 53rd District
